| Finca la Hoya is a classic cortijo (large farmhouse) set in 30 acres of grounds and lovely mature gardens. The estate is completely surrounded by wonderful National Parkland, ideal for walking and riding. Gaucin, one of the famous ‘white villages’ of Andalucia is only ten minutes away, a smaller village with some shops and restaurants is at only five minutes. The estate is within easy reach of some famous beaches, golf courses and Sotogrande with its Polo grounds and nightlife. |
| The house is approached down a palm-shaded drive. The panoramic views from the house and its 14 metre infinity pool over the hills up to the Riff mountains of Africa are breathtaking. The pool is wonderful for night bathing in the moonlight at the sounds of frogs, crickets and cow bells. Here the skies are huge and the magic stars seem close enough to touch. There are plenty of sun loungers and sunshades. |
| The extensive mature gardens are a delight. For years and years the owners have planned the garden and planted it bit by bit with the most exquisite flowering subtropical plants. It has extensive formal lawns and gardens, avenues of jacaranda and 100 year-old olive trees, a vineyard, a Eucalyptus wood and even a (habitable) “Folly” lower down the valley. |
| You enter the house through a large 70 m2 hallway that opens into the lovely central courtyard. It has a typical central fountain. This lovely enclosed area is planted with orange trees, fragrant Mediterranean shrubs and colourful flowers. The six downstairs bedrooms and the living rooms lead from here. |
| The estates offers three spacious living rooms, each with a different character. From the hallway a circular stone staircase leads up to a tranquil first floor drawing room, with an open fire and plenty of books. From its balcony one sees all the way to the Riff mountains of Africa. |
| To the left of the circular stone staircase is the utterly romantic master bedroom. It has a roll top bath and separate toilet. All is extremely elegant, spacious, bright and airy. |
| The large main living room is double height. The style is very different. It offers comfortable seating for 12 guests. It has a large open fire, flat screen TV, Bose music system, a wide range of DVDs, CD’s and a wonderful collection of books. Moreover the house has broadband internet access. The estate has central heating for the cooler months. |
| Adjoining the main living room is the open plan kitchen. It is fully fitted with double sinks, 4 ring stove, oven, microwave, fridge-freezer , dish washer, washing machine and all the smaller utensils you might wish for. There is a separate laundry room with two washing machines and an ironing board. |
| You will find plenty of lovely china, glasses and pots an pans in all sizes. A welcome hamper of food essentials is provided upon arrival. Set to one side of the kitchen is the main dining area. It comfortably seats 16 guests. |
| You may not use the inside dining area a lot though, since you will probably mostly dine al fresco. The property offers three gorgeous outside dining areas to choose from, each capable of seating 16 people. There is a barbecue and an extra fridge on one of the terraces. |
| Scattered around the grounds are many lovely places, either for entertaining, or more remote, for a moment of peace and quiet away from it all. Hammocks, a croquet lawn, a ping pong table, badminton, and even a child’s swing are all on offer. |
| Three more bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms, lead off the inner patio. Two are very romantic, one in pink and one with a mosquito net draped over the bed; the third is decorated more robust in warm green and red. |
| All three have a large double bed; one of these can be made as twin beds. One of these rooms has a bathroom with basin, bath with shower over and toilet, the other two have a shower room with basin, shower and toilet. |
| There are two more double rooms, one with a double bed and one with and extra large double bed that can be made as twins. These rooms share a shower room with the children’s gallery upstairs. The third sitting room forms part of the children’s wing with its own TV, DVD and electric piano. If you would like a babysitter this can be provided at extra cost. |
| The seventh and eighth bedrooms are on the upper floor of the south east side of the courtyard. This area has been designed as a children’s area. The walls have been painted with striking trompe l’oeils: the whole area has been decorated in the style of a Moroccan tent. In all Finca La Hoya is the perfect venue for a large group, but is also lovely for smaller groups. You may choose to relax at Finca La Hoya and enjoy the pool, the views and the peace and quiet. Or you may go off exploring the area’s historical sites, the white villages, restaurants and tapaz bars, or go walking or riding. |
