El Tejar
El Tejar is situated above a pretty whitewashed village, just quarter of an hour from Ronda. This stylishly converted farmhouse has panoramic views of the Grazalema mountains. Decorated in Andalusian/Moroccan style, the house has included daily maid service by a charming housekeeper who can also prepare delicious tapas. The pool is surrounded by terraced areas shaded by olive, almond and citrus trees.
4-8 persons
| El Tejar is situated just above a friendly whitewashed village. Here you have the best of both worlds: easy access to the village shops and bars yet once you arrive at El Tejar you feel really away from it all. Sculpted into the hillside is a gorgeous pool surrounded by terraced areas, shaded by quince, olive, almond and citrus trees. The swimming pool is a uniform 1.6m deep. It has steps leading into it. The spacious terraces invite you above all to relax. |
| The house is located at the edge of the Grazalema National Park, a Unesco Biosphere reserve, which has some of the best hiking in Europe. When you sit by the pool or on the terraces, you have great views on Grazalema. Because of the elevated position, no other house is blocking your view. |
In the house base elements of whitewashed beams and terracotta floors have been stylishly combined with warm colour washes. |
| The kitchen has its own sitting area on a lower level; tucked away in a corner is a computer with free broadband internet connection. Two and a half hours of daily cleaning help from a charming, and very discreet, Spanish housekeeper, Paqui, is included in the weekly rental price. |
| If you wish, Paqui can also prepare meals for you. She can either prepare a wide range of 'tapas' for you - these are made in her own home and then delivered to you for your lunch or dinner. Or she can also cook a full three course meal (minimum of 4 people) which will be served to you at your candlelit dining table. Paqui uses organically grown vegetables from her husband's vegetable plot, proper stock in her soups, and prepares delicious meat and fish dishes. She will serve you at dinner and clean up once coffee/herbal teas have been served in the sitting room or beneath the stars on the terrace. Occasionally guests prefer for Paqui not to come up to El Tejar to clean and tidy. No problem... |

| The house is built on several levels, climbing up the mountainside above the village. Upstairs are three spacious bedrooms with a bright/ethnic feel; linen is top of the range, mattresses too, and all are big on space. Casablanca, reached by a steep wooden staircase, has a gorgeous view and its own small lounge with French windows leading out to a small jasmine-clad balcony. |
| The lounge is a real eagle's nest is decorated in a warm ochre wash. There is loads of hanging space in the wardrobe and tasteful lighting. Cadiz, in a separate wing. is the highest room at El Tejar and is a twin. It has windows on three sides so is a really light room. There are framed black & white photographs & attractive applique lamps. Cuzco, in the same wing as Cadiz, is another spacious twin room. It too has windows on all three sides and has access to an almond-shaded terrace & down to the pool. |
| Cueva is the lowest room in the house, well away from other rooms. It is a double & has been decorated with framed prints from Morocco. It has a small annex with a single bed & has access out to a terrace by the pool. |
| All of the rooms have attractive bathrooms. The pressure in the showers is excellent and there is masses of hot water. There are heated towel rails. Sinks are marble topped with masses of space for toiletries and there is attractive ceramic tiling and retro-style taps. As well as a large overhead shower rose there is an additional 'telephone' shower as well, of course, as a large bath tub. Cueva is the only room which has just a shower rather than bath. All rooms have CD players with a selection of Spanish music. All linen & pillows are top quality. |

| El Tejar is not suitable for toddlers because of the steep stairs. But children aged 4/5 and above will love the house. Location: From Ronda it is about 15 minutes by car to El Tejar. Ronda has all facilities. It is 90 minutes to the airport of Malaga or Seville and less than 60 minutes to the beaches of the Mediterranean coast. The village is quiet and friendly village. There are a number of bars and restaurants including one in the pine forest where you can have al fresco meals. There is a bakers, four small grocery stores - two of them provide baskets so you can pick things off the shelf, a useful thing for non-Spanish speakers - as well as a bank and chemists. |
| Surroundings: Apart from the truly stunning scenery around Ronda (Serrania de Ronda, Sierra de las Nieves, Park of Grazalema, Zahara lake etc.), there are numerous remains of ancient civilizations in the area, including some of Europe’s most beautiful cave painting in the Cueva de la Pileta. Ronda’s spectacular Puente Nuevo spans the deep canyon that divides Ronda’s old and ‘new’ quarters, and there are Moorish palaces, Renaissance mansions and Andalusia’s best preserved Arab baths. Within a 2 hour drive are Seville, Granada and Cordoba. And close to Ronda are a series of enchanting ‘white villages’ clinging to spectacular mountain locations. An easy drive away from El Tejar are good beaches and golf courses. Even a day trip to Morocco is possible from Tarifa on the Fast Ferry, which crosses the Strait in just 40 minutes. |
